At Thomson Lifestyle Centre, our health screening programmes are carefully designed to examine and assess the overall state of your health and detect and investigate signs of illnesses that you may not be aware of.
Health screening is a necessity as it helps save lives and foreseeable expenses over the long term. There are many end stage diseases and consequences that are largely preventable through early detection of their associated primary illnesses.
Early detection saves lives
A Comprehensive health screening package should include both essential “lifesaving’” investigations, such as cancer screenings and heart checks, as well as additional tests based on the individual’s own risk assessment. This risk assessment, a detailed look at the subject’s personal medical history, family medical history, and lifestyle choices, should be completed by a trained physician.
Essential tests should serve to detect common end stage diseases and their associated primary illnesses. For prevention of coronary and cerebral vascular disease, for example, the essential test will include a blood pressure check, lipid profile and screening for diabetes. Additional tests may include checks for High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein and also homocysteine levels. Diagnostic tests like a Treadmill electro-cardiogram or echo-cardiogram can also be completed if deemed necessary.
Certain cancers occur at certain ages, or with certain lifestyles and habits. Others form after certain prior infections. For cancer screening, some of the useful tests include:
» Breast cancer screening via a mammogram and ultrasound
» Cervical cancer screening via a pap smear
» Colorectal screening via a stool for testing occult blood and Carcinoembryonic Antigen levels
» Prostate cancer screening (for those in the appropriate age bracket) via a Prostate-Specific Antigen level check
The above tests, coupled with relevant a physical examination, are useful as there is a high population occurrence for the above mentioned cancers.
Early detection will often equate to less extensive surgical treatments, and better prognosis. Additional cancer screening blood tests and procedures can be followed after an individual risk assessment with the doctor.
Thomson Lifestyle Centre provides customised health screening packages, designed to address both common primary illnesses as well as the less common medical conditions that will benefit from early detection and treatment. Our experienced and well-trained medical personnel are well-suited to serve as your preferred corporate health partner.
A multi-pronged prevention approach is thus necessary to maintain an individual’s health. Comprehensive health screening programmes, coupled with a healthy lifestyle, and balanced diet is key to ensuring you remain in the pink of health!
