Finding "friends" and work

21 Jan 2010
If you’re social networking your way to your next job, chances are you’re doing it on Facebook. That’s the conclusion of a single-question online survey posed by Adecco Singapore last week.

Of the 130 survey respondents, 20% considered the world’s most popular social networking avenue, Facebook, to be the best for finding that next job. Despite being known as the business world’s social media, the LinkedIn network received only 17% of the votes.

Most other choices scored in the single digits, with 2% choosing a relevant blog and less than 1% opting for the short update service of Twitter.

Lynne Ng, Regional Director for Adecco South East Asia, says social media is now a valid and important medium for finding information on potential employers and roles. ”By reading blogs and participating in on-line conversations, an applicant can be thoroughly prepared for a job interview and have a number of good questions lined-up for the interview day,” she said.
