Singapore does not have specific legislation on employment discrimination and equal opportunity. Only limited protective provisions exist, in order to avoid discrimination on the grounds of age, maternity status and union activity. However, the Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices (TAFEP), comprising the MOM, unions and employer organisations, has issued non-binding guidelines with the aim of encouraging employers to adopt fair employment practices and promote equal opportunity in recruitment, appraisal, promotion, posting and training.
