Check out the biggest winners and the best moments from this year's Readers' Choice Awards!

Note: This was a live blog of all the happenings from this year's HRM Asia Readers' Choice Awards that took place on the evening of September 8.

Welcome to the 3rd HRM Asia Readers’ Choice Awards, celebrating the very best corporate service providers in the region!

It’s 6pm here at Capella Singapore in Sentosa Island, and the HRM Asia team is getting ready to welcome all the attendees this evening – nominees, voters, judges, HR leaders, and more!


The cocktail reception is now underway, as hundreds of service providers, industry experts and HR practitioners alike mingle and engage in some deep conversations over light snacks and some wine.

Our fabulous host Sharlyn Lim kicks off the gala, with an introduction of the awards.

As she points out, the Readers’ Choice Awards has grown from just five categories a few years ago to 38 categories today, and we are proud to be at the forefront in connecting HR professionals across all sectors.

Lim is now introducing HRM Magazine Editor Sham Majid, who will be giving the opening address.

Majid starts off his speech congratulating this evening’s winners, before talking about how 2017 has been a year of disruption and transformation.

“HR is not immune to this phenomenon,” he says.

Likewise, HRM Asia has also undergone some major changes, starting with HRM Magazine, Majid shares.

The new HRM Magazine is now the refreshed, alongside a brand-new magazine and all-inclusive, industry-leading content.

In line with this year’s overarching theme of transformation and innovation, the Smart Workforce Summit will also be back in two weeks, featuring the “father of modern HR” Dave Ulrich. The event will highlight and dissect the new world of work, through thought-provoking and insightful panel discussions, masterclasses and think tank sessions. 


Lim returns back on stage to get the awards presentation underway.

She announces the first category for the night - Best Consultancy - HR Advisory category. And the winner goes to HR Guru!

HR Guru Founder Tommy Ng (pictured below) says they are a young company, so are extremely honoured to win this award.

Capella Singapore wins the Best Corporate MICE Venue award. Fernando Gibaja, General Manager of Capella receives the award.

And now for Best Corporate MICE Venue (Large Scale, above 1000 pax), the award goes to Suntec Singapore Convection & Exhibition Centre.

"We're very honoured to win this award. I must thank our partners and clients for their continued support," says Grace Yang, HR Director of Suntec Singapore. 


Times Software's sales and marketing manager Rene Wong goes on stage to accept the award for Best HR Tech - Payroll.

She said: "I would like to dedicate this award to all our staff for their hard work and for making Times Software the best payroll service." She then added, to much laughter: "If you need a good payroll service, do look for Times Software!"

Best HR Tech - HRMS… the winner goes to Frontier e-HR. Congratulations!

CEO of Frontier Weng Foo Chua (pictured below) is so over the moon about winning he accepts the award while crooning to "Fly Me to the Moon"!

Following that fun acceptance speech, the award for Best HR Tech - Employee Assessment Tool goes to iqDynamics.

For the Best Corporate Health & Wellness Screening Provider, we have Choo Kin Poo, CEO of Asiamedic going up on stage to receive their first win at the Readers’ Choice. 

Taking home the prize for Best Corporate Learning & Development Provider award is Marketing Institute of Singapore, who bagged the same award last year!


Singapore HR consultancy firm TrainingGearAsia's Joseph Wong (pictured above), Founding Director, receives the award for Best Corporate Talent Development Provider to a room full of applause.

Wong was philosophical in his speech: “To all the award recipients, I believe that success don't create happiness, but happiness creates success. So let's go out there and be happy.”

The other winners so far are:

Best Background Screening Provider. Winner: RISQ Group.

Best Corporate Relocation Provider. Winner: Altair Global.

Best Recruitment Firm - Local. Winner: People Advantage.

Best Recruitment Firm - International. Winner: Hays.

Best Asia Leadership - Consultant. Winner: Asia Pacific Sales & Marketing Academy.

We’re back for the second segment of the evening, and before we give out more awards, HRM Asia’s Associate Director for Partnership Solutions Crispian Lye takes the stage to say a few words about the Readers’ Choice Awards and the many nominees here tonight.

Lye shares how he had spent a good part of his career at the Singapore Business Federation involved with its many initiatives to develop Singapore’s manpower capabilities.

So when the opportunity to join HRM Asia came up and for him to further his involvement in the HR space.

“What gets me going on a daily basis is the great community of clients we work with,” says Lye.

“Innovative and forward looking companies, big and small, who are very clear on how they could synergise with the HRM platform. “


Once again, we're giving out more awards to the top HR and corporate service providers and solutions here in Asia.

For the Best HR Tech - Learning Management System category, the winner is iqDynamics who wins its second award of the evening!

Best HR Tech - Talent Management System, and Unit4 comes out on top.

"We're in business for the people," says Rachel Chung, Unit4 HR director (pictured above).

Times Software, too, wins its second award of the night for Best HR Tech Outsourcing.


The Best Corporate Compensation and Benefits Consultancy award goes to CXA Group, whose founder recalls the risk she took to set up the firm.

"Three years ago I left my job at Mercer, and took our family savings of $5 million to set up CXA, and today CXA is worth $100 million. Thank you to the HR community," says Rosaline Chow, CEO and founder (pictured below). 

Echoing Chow's start-up journey is Rewardz' co-founder Nicole Seah, who also quit her job to start her own company. Rewardz took home their best reward yet - the Best Corporate Employee Rewards trophy.

"It's our first time getitng this award; we're a very young company. I, too, quit my job to do this," she says.

"I'll like to thank my husband, who founded this company with me, because no one has thanked their husbands yet. I'm very happy, thank you so much," Seah exclaims.

RGF wins two awards in a row for Best Recruitment Firm - Accounting/Banking/Finance Positions and Best Recruitment Firm - Sales/Marketing Positions.

Some other awards in this segment:

Best Recruitment Firm - Engineering/IT Positions… the winner goes to Sciente International.

Best Recruitment Firm - Human Resources/Admin Positions is People Advantage.

Best Corporate Leadership Programme. Winner is Asia Pacific Sales & Marketing Academy.

Best Corporate Talent Engagement Provider. Winner: TrainingGearAsia.

Best Corporate Training Provider. Winner: Rohei Corporation.

Praise Mok (pictured left), Deputy CEO of Rohei Corporation, says in her acceptance speech: "The thanks belongs to the Rohei team and the trainers. We also want to say this is significant because this is our tenth year."


The awards takes another break, as guests take the opportunity to freshen up.


A very special act awaits our audience now on stage.

Called the LuMen (pictured below), they are glow-in-the-dark futuristic LED Dancers. As we write this, they are working their magic and entr

ancing the audience with their magnetic Tron-dance style and flashy lights.

With the room lights turned off, their dazzling outfits and moves illuminate the darkness and a sea of suited-up industry professionals!

What an electrifying performance that was! We want more!


HRM Asia's Senior Conference Manager Domenica Decrea welcomes back our guests as she introduces the HRM Congress series.

As she says, we will be presenting some 14 more awards. So here we go.

Best Background Screening Provider. Winner: RISQ Group

Best Corporate Healthcare Group, the winner goes to Raffles Medical Group.

Rewardz wins its second award of the night as Best Corporate Wellness Provider.

"A lot goes to our clients. We are a very client-focused team," says Sudhanshu Tewari, CEO and co-founder. "Thanks to my wife too!"

For Best Business Hotel, the trophy goes to Park Hotel Clarke Quay.

Dino Lim, general manager of Park Hotel Clarke Quay, says "I would like to thank my team here with me tonight. This goes to them!"

This evening's venue host Capella Singapore goes on stage a second time as the Best Business Hotel - C-Suite winner.

"I'm very honoured to receive this award and it means a lot to our team members," says its representative.

Best Serviced Apartment Group goes to Oakwood Asia Pacific.

"Today, Oakwood is present in 95 countries, and we have the largest inventory of ready-to-move-in corporate apartments. We wouldn't be here without you the readers, so thank you so much for your votes," says Christine Sng Mechtler, Oakwood's Group Director of marketing communciations.

Next is the Best Service Apartment - By Property category, which Village Residence Robertson Quay bags.

Best HR Tech - Claim Management System: Ready Software.

Best HR Tech - Leave Management System: Unit4.

Best HR Tech - Cloud Solution: Times Software wins its third award of the night.


We've arrived at the highly anticipated final segment of this year's awards, the Best Recruitment Firms!

The first, the Best Recruitment Firm - Mass Recrutiment, goes to...People Advantage!

For the Best Recruitment Firm - Client Experience, the winner is Resource Solutions.

"Thank you very much. We would like to congratulate all the winners tonight. This is the only awards that includes votes from readers and judges so it's testament to its significance," says Simon Bradberry, Managing Director of Resource Solutions.

And for the final award of the night - Best Recruitment Firm - Senior Positions goes to Hays, also it's second award thid year.

"I've had the pleasure of working with the wonderful people at Hays. It's a genuine honour to be recognised in this category," shares an Hays representative.
